In-flight meals upgrades becomes prime focus of airlines now

In-flight meals ever since their inception in 1919 had remained a cause of worry for various international airlines. The cuisines also play an important role in keeping passengers satiated and attracted during their long-haul flights. With the changing trends and mad rush to attract customers in a big way, the competition among the airlines is getting fiercer in terms of providing even better amenities and services than before. And, in-flight cuisines are therefore no exception at 30,000 feet!

Travel experts say that the trend, particularly on the in-flight meals front, is changing fast. Airlines are now getting into partnerships with celebrity chefs for creating nutritional and delicious dishes. Nowadays you can look forward to yummy meals, which may include bowls of creamy curries topped with fresh lobster meat, vegetarian noodle dishes spiced with fresh herbs or perfectly seared fillets of steak.

Media reports recently said Singapore Airlines has entered into partnership with New York celebrity chef Alfred Portale for upgrading the meals for premium customers traveling in First Class Suite and business class cabins and serving them five-star restaurant quality meals. The airline also collaborated with acclaimed sommeliers Oz Clarke, Michael Hill Smith and Jeannie Cho Lee for upgrading the in-flight wine experience of the customers as well. The customers can now look forward to sipping award-winning Chardonnays or vintage Dom Pérignon while relishing their yummy dishes.

Finland’s flagship carrier Finnair also decided to follow suit and hired celebrity chefs for creating in-flight meals for business class customers. The renowned chefs with whom the airline has partnered include Sasa Laukkonen from Finland and Steven Liu from China. The airline will be featuring its signature menu appropriately blending the Nordic style with Eastern flavors. Juha Järvinen, Chief Commercial Officer of Finnair, said, “Now that the airline has entered into partnership with celebrity chefs the business class customers will be treated to delicious cuisines bringing the flavors and tastes of the East and West.”
