Interjet launching nonstop Houston-Monterrey flights from Oct 23

Good news awaits travelers from Houston as more options for travel to international destinations is coming their way late this year. Mexican carrier Interjet recently announced it will be launching nonstop flights between Monterrey’s General Mariano Escobedo International Airport and Houston’s George Bush International Airport effective from October 23, 2014.

The airline offered introductory cheap airfares for travel between the two destinations starting from $249*. The customers will be offered two flight options. Interjet will be operating flights to Houston from Monterrey from Mondays through Fridays, while one daily flight will be operated on Saturdays and Sundays.

A spokesperson of Interjet in a statement said that by launching the flights from Monterrey the airline responded to the growing demand from Houston fliers for travel to international destinations, particularly Mexico.

Mario Diaz, Houston Aviation Director, said that there had been a significant increase in international travel from Houston. During the past 10 years, there had been more than 60 percent increase in international travel from Houston, reaching a record total of 9 million passengers in 2013.

Apart from Monterrey flights, Houston’s George Bush International Airport added another international destination in August this year. Scandinavian Airlines launched its nonstop flights between Norwegian city of Stavanger and Houston. The flights are aimed to strengthen cultural ties between the two cities and also promptly cater to the growing demands of professionals related to oil and gas industry in the two cities.

Earlier in May 2014, Houston Airport System officials announced that the Terminal D at George Bush International Airport would be demolished and rebuilt. The authorities have allocated $1.5 billion for makeover plan spanning over five years.
