JAL reintroduces “crane” logo

Japan Airlines will soon be unveiling the “soaring Japanese red-crown crane” as its new logo, which will symbolize a new start for the airline group.

The new logo features the bird flight with wings fully extended. The logo was first registered as the trademark of JAL in 1959 and has been used during the period of its international expansion. The logo has been used as the carriers’ livery for more than 40 years.

The airlines management said that the new logo will be reintroduced from 1st April 2011 and then will be gradually phased in over the next few years on the airline’s fleet, name tags, signage, and stationery except the staff. The Boeing 767-300ER aircraft will be the first to be repainted.

The symbol is now associated with the nation’s distinct hallmarks of pristine quality and reliability, values and is determined to safeguard.

The airline has been into the process of restricting its corporate program for the past one year to gain more profit. The airline has brought changes such as cut in the workforce, removing the loss making routes and by reducing fleet capacity to 100.

oneworld alliance had apprehensions in early 2010 about JAL’s membership as it was being financially supported by the rival alliance such as Skyteam and the founding member Delta Airlines. JAL has been a member of oneworld alliance and has also signed a transpacific joint venture agreement with fellow alliance member American Airlines.
