Japan Airlines renames JAL Sky Suite as JAL Sky Suite 787

Japan Airlines has announced it will be renaming its famous JAL Sky Suite and operate it under the name ‘JAL Sky Suite 787’. The exclusive cabin is being offered on the airline’s select Boeing 787-8 aircraft to those booking business class flights.

The airline’s premium customers will start enjoying the new upgraded interiors starting from this December itself. The airline will initially operate the once-daily flight with new signature interiors between Frankfurt and Tokyo Narita. The service will be further expanded to New York JFK with a daily service in January 2015.

A spokesperson of Japan Airlines said that the 787 aircraft fitted with the all new JAL Sky Suite will be featuring 38 full lie-flat seats, which will be in a 2-2-2 layout. The airline has adopted a similar design as that of SS7 business class seats on its Boeing 777 fleet.

Among other features of this new cabin include direct aisle access, 23-inch personal TVs and retractile privacy blinds. The seats will also be featuring a comfy mattress and pillow designed by S-Line.

Providing further details, the spokesperson said that JAL Sky Premium being offered onboard JAL Sky Suite 787 aircraft will be equipped with 35 seats in a layout of 2-4-2. This is primarily a premium economy cabin. The seat pitch will be of 42 inches. This cabin will be prominently featuring 12.1 inch state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment system, along with a center divider and cup holders.

The JAL Sky Suite 787 aircraft will also offer JAL Sky Wider II class to its economy class customers. This cabin will be featuring 88 seats in a 2-4-2 layout. The seat width has now been increased to 48 cm, while the seat pitch will be of 84 cm. Other facilities to be offered in this cabin include 10.6-inch Touchscreen monitor, AC power outlets and USB outlets.

Japan Airlines is currently operating a fleet of 15 Boeing 787 aircrafts. It is also the world’s fourth largest operator of such aircrafts.
