Jet Airways adding more business class seats to maximize profits

India’s largest private carrier Jet Airways recently announced it will be taking significant steps to maximize its profitability. The airline in a statement said that it will be adding more business class seats on various routes. Among other measures include selling aircrafts, reducing capacity and executing sale and lease-back of planes.

The airline disclosed that by implementing these measures it will be able to generate a cash surplus and reduce its working capital pressure.

Sudheer Raghavan, Jet Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, said that the airline is currently into dire straits and facing financial difficulties. He said that the airline’s total debt presently stands at $2.3 billion and is looking to repay them at the earliest.

Raghavan said that the loss-making routes will be discontinued. He also stated that the airline will be replacing expatriate pilots and would be seriously focusing on expanding its ancillary revenue.
