JetBlue expands codeshare pact with South African Airways

JetBlue Airways and South African Airways have now expanded their codeshare agreement. With the new pact in place now, the customers traveling from Washington Dulles will now be able to conveniently connect to Accra in Ghana. The flight operations under the new agreement have already become effective.

Media reports said that JetBlue Airways will be operating the flights between Washington D.C. and Accra four times per week. The outbound flight will be operated on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while the inbound flight will be conducted on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. According to the reports, outbound Flight #5223 will depart from Washington Dulles at 5.40 pm and arrive in Accra at 8.40 am next day. The return Flight #5224 will take off from Accra at 11.55 pm and reach Washington Dulles at 6.15 am next day.

The expanded codeshare agreement will see JetBlue Airways placing its flight code “B6” on South African Airways-operated flights. The customers booking a codeshare itinerary would be able to travel on a single ticket combining their journey on both the carriers. Moreover, they will also be able to avail the benefits of one-stop baggage transfer and check-in. Among other benefits, the frequent flyer program members would stand to gain further by earning TrueBlue points on South African Airways’ entire global network.

Presently, South African Airways is also offering nonstop flights between Accra and Washington Dulles four times per week. The flights on the route are being operated with the help of the airline’s wide-body, modern Airbus A330 and Airbus A340 aircrafts. Both JetBlue Airways and South African Airways are co-located at Washington Dulles’ Concourse B thus allowing convenient and faster connections to customers traveling on either airline. The U.S. travelers taking flights from Washington Dulles to Accra will be able to travel via Dakar (Senegal) and onwards to Johannesburg as well. South African Airways also operates daily nonstop flights between New York JFK and Johannesburg. Apart from JetBlue Airways, among other U.S. carriers with which South African Airways has codeshare agreements include United Airlines and Air Canada.
