Jetstar to fly Boeing 787 Dreamliner on upgraded Honolulu route

Jetstar, a low-cost subsidiary of Qantas Airways, has announced it will be upgrading its flights on Sydney-Honolulu route by early 2015. The airline will now introduce a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to provide services between the two cities.

The leading Australian low-cost carrier said that Honolulu will become its tenth destination to be served by a Dreamliner. Jetstar will be rolling out its new Boeing 787 aircraft and begin operating its flights from Sydney from February next year.

The airline is presently operating flights between Sydney and Honolulu six times every week. The airline is also offering thrice-weekly services from Melbourne to Hawaii’s capital city as well. The flights on both Sydney-Honolulu and Melbourne-Honolulu routes are being operated with the help of Airbus A330 aircrafts.

Jetstar has also indicated that it will also be adding thrice weekly flights between Brisbane and Honolulu starting from December 18, 2014. The airline will be serving the two cities with the help of an Airbus A330 aircraft.

According to reports, Jetstar has recently acquired seven Boeing 787 aircrafts. These aircrafts will be gradually replacing the Airbus A330 aircrafts, which will be included in Qantas Airways’ fleet. One of the Dreamliners is already being operated between Cairns and Osaka. The airline is scheduled to receive four more Boeing 787 aircrafts, and has decided to replace all its Airbus A330 aircrafts with Dreamliners by the end of 2015.

A spokesperson of Jetstar said that the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircrafts will be configured with two classes – Business Class and Economy Class. Media reports said that the business class seats being offered by the airline will be similar to the premium economy being offered by Qantas Airways on its Airbus A380 aircraft or revamped Boeing 747 aircrafts.

Jetstar Australia and New Zealand chief executive David Hall said that the airline feels privileged in becoming the first Australian carrier to offer a Boeing 787 Dreamliner service to Hawaii’s capital city of Honolulu. He said that Boeing 787 promises a 20 percent fuel savings when compared to older, comparable aircraft. He said that with Boeing 787 Dreamliners in its fleet now the airline is indeed quite satisfied with the operational fuel savings.
