KLM and Austrian Airlines cut flights to Tehran

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Austrian Airlines both of European origin have decided to halt their international flights to Tehran due to drop in their ticket sales.

KLM Airlines, which at present operated four weekly flights to Iran, will freeze all its flights to Tehran stating from April 2013. Similarly due to non-demand of seats, Austrian Airlines operated its last flight to Tehran from Vienna on January 13, 2013. Previously Austrian flew four flights to Tehran, which was eventually reduced to thrice weekly since November 2012.

Despite this announcement Lufthansa, Germany's flag carrier as informed that it will continue operations its five weekly flights to Tehran.

Iran at present is facing a lot of economic turmoil. Even its oil revenues have been slashed by over fifty percent by its European and American authorities, leading in acute decent in the value of Iranian currency and eventually in the buying capacity of the locals.
