Korean Air finishes its fleet enhancement

The national flagship carrier of South Korea, Korean Air, recently completed its six-year long awaited retrofitting project. The project was aimed at enhancing the cabin features and seats of most of the airline’s passenger fleet.

The international airline possesses a total of 68 aircrafts and has enhanced 49 aircrafts that include Boeing B777s, B747s and Airbus A330s. The rest of 19 aircrafts are the new ones.

The airline has refurbished more than 14,000 seats in its 49 aircraft with products such as the Kosmo Suites, Kosmo Sleepers and Sleeper seats in First Class, Prestige sleepers and Prestige Plus in business class and brand new coach class seats. The airline has also introduced upgraded AVOD inflight entertainment systems in all these aircrafts.

The first phase of the enhancement project between 2005 and 2008, the airline refurbished its 17 B747 aircrafts and later between 2009 and 2011 the remaining ones, which included 13 B777s and 19 A330s were also renovated.

Currently, the airline has a total of 17 improved B747-400 aircrafts, 18 B777-200ERs (nine new and nine refurbished), 10 B777-300ERs that includes six new and four enhanced, 16 improved A330 aircrafts and seven A330-200 aircrafts, which includes four new and three improved ones.

The airlines will also receive its first A380 aircraft out of the total 10, which will be delivered by the end of next month. The airline will receive four more superjumbo by the end of this year and the remaining five will be delivered until 2014.
