Low Fares and Family Fun at Honolulu Zoo

Dating back to 1876, the Honolulu Zoo is an attraction that families come to see on cheap plane fares from all over the world. With over 2,300 miles of unique exhibits, this historical zoo dates back to the times of King and Queens. In fact, it was originally built to house the exotic animal collection of King David Kalakaua. The first animals included in the zoo were a monkey, bear, lion cubs and an African elephant.

Cheap plane fares will get you to Honolulu and so will the admission to the zoo. For under $5 per person, the entire family can spend an entire day (or two) walking through hundreds of exhibits. The zoo has built itself back into a nationally recognized attraction from the days of the Great Depression when the zoo lost many of its exhibits and workers. Today the zoo is owned and operated by the city, which helps offset the costs and maintain the habitat for some of the world’s most exotic animals.

Honolulu Zoo Society
The Honolulu Zoo Society is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1969. With members from all over the country, this society holds its annual meetings within Honolulu. Members visit year round to visit the zoo or even look into acquiring new animals for exhibits. The purpose of the society is to discuss preservation and ensure that each animal’s needs are met to the fullest.

Updates and Changes
Travelers looking to take Honolulu / Hawaii cheap flights will notice some changes at the zoo. Throughout the year, new cages and holding centers will be created, but also new animals and education centers are underway. In the 90s the first proposal for changes was approved and since then, the zoo is constantly upgrading to make way for new technology. So don’t be surprised if you see a little construction on your visit.
