Germany’s national carrier, Lufthansa recently introduced the Airbus A380 on Frankfurt-Miami route. The inaugural flight LH462 took off from Frankfurt International Airport for Miami on June 10, 2011.
The inaugural flight departed from Frankfurt at 9.45 am and arrived at Miami International Airport at 1.40 pm to a rousing welcome by the officials of Miami airport and Miami-Dade County city. The return flight LH463 departed Miami at 4.15 pm and arrived in Frankfurt at 7.15 am, the next day.
Jens Bischof, Member of Lufthansa German Airlines Board, Sales and Revenue Management, said that it was the proudest moment for Lufthansa to become the first carrier to introduce the new Airbus A380 aircraft in the Miami market. He also complimented the Miami International Airport’s management for their commitment in becoming A380-ready.
Jose Abreu, Aviation Director of Miami-Dade, also spoke on the occasion. In his address, while receiving the inaugural flight, he said that the start of A380 service by Lufthansa has elevated the status of Miami International Airport and placed it into the category of elite class of airports worldwide. He said that it was historic day for MIA and Miami-Dade County, and congratulated Lufthansa for reaching yet another milestone.
The Airbus A380 deployed by Lufthansa on Frankfurt-Miami route is configured with 526 seats. The aircraft features Lufthansa’s new First Class product, an air humidification system, which is said to be first of its kind to have been installed on a commercial aircraft. Besides the First Class, there are 98 seats in the Business Class cabin. The aircraft is configured with 420 seats in the spacious Economy Class cabin featuring a slimmer seat back, an optimized ergonomic design and an in-seat video screen.
Lufthansa is operating its flights at Miami International Airport for above 30 years. The airline has recorded an impressive growth and increased popularity of Miami-Frankfurt route.
