Lufthansa introducing fully-flat business class seats on A380s

Lufthansa will be introducing fully-flat bed seats in its business class cabins on its newly-acquired Airbus A380 aircrafts. The airline has indicated that first two A380s have been fitted with new seats and ready to be deployed for service.

The airline said that so far only two A380s have been fitted with new seats, while the remaining A380s would also be retrofitted during next few months. Along with the new seats, the business class cabin would also be equipped with broadband internet connectivity.

Aviation experts however criticized Lufthansa for providing fully-flat bed seats rather too late. They said that the late decision might be because Lufthansa faltered in assessing the market thinking that the time was not yet ripe to go in for fully-flat bead seating, which happened so quickly.

Media reports said that by the time Lufthansa decided to fit its A380s with full-flat bed seats it was too late and the airline was delivered its first 10 A380s with angled lie-flat seats. The airline’s A380s will now make way for fully-flat bed seats with the seat count in the business class cabins now reduced to 92 from the earlier 98.

Meanwhile, Lufthansa has also announced that it will be retrofitting its A380s with Premium Economy cabins. The airline revealed its plan in March this year at the ITB trade fair held in Berlin. The new seats would be introduced on the airline’s long haul fleet by summer 2015.

The new premium economy cabins would make debut in November and would be initially introduced on Boeing 747-8.  The premium economy cabins would be located between business class and economy class cabins. The airline indicated that the new cabins would however comprise between 21 and 52 seats. This will though depend on the type of aircrafts they would be installed on.
