Lufthansa introducing premium economy class on long-haul fleet

Germany’s national flag carrier Lufthansa Airline recently announced it will be introducing new premium economy flights on its long-haul international routes.

The airline in a statement said that it will launch premium economy class cabins on its long-haul fleet because the first class demand is gradually weakening. The airline stated that the in view of the weakening demand it does not see any reason to invest in first class or continue it on its long-haul international routes.

According to Lufthansa, the gap between the business class and economy class has also become too big. However, the airline refused to say whether introducing premium economy class cabins would cut into its business class.
Carsten Spohr, CEO of Lufthansa Passage Airlines, said that the airline would establish a committee that would look into the design and implementation aspects of the new premium class product. The new committee will begin its work early next year.
