Lufthansa launching new Business Class Signature Service Sept 1

Germany’s flagship carrier Lufthansa recently announced it will be launching its new ’Business Class Signature Service’ starting from September 1, 2015. The service will be launched on long-haul international routes.

Media reports said that the airline will be introducing the concept of individualised restaurant service as part of the Business Class Signature Service. Under this program there will be a higher crew-to-passenger ratio with one flight attendant for every eight customers in the business class cabins.

Carsten Spohr, Chairman and CEO of Lufthansa, while talking to mediapersons said that the airline wants to create a restaurant-style service where the flight attendants would be introducing themselves to the passengers and cater to the needs of the same group of passengers on the flight.

Spohr said that the meals would be plated in the galley and delivered to each passenger just in the same way it is done in a restaurant. The meals would come freshly prepared right from the kitchen, instead of being served from a trolley.

The pilot program of the Business Class Signature Service initially started in late 2014 on selected flights. According to the airline, this exclusive service has already been soft launched on business class flights to Miami. The airline is now planning to introduce the service on New York flights, with more international routes to be added from September this year.

Lufthansa wants to substantially upgrade its services in its business class cabins offering a premium flying experience to its customers. The airline is also making other significant upgrades as well with the installation of new business class seats on its long-haul international aircrafts to be completed by August this year.
