Lufthansa planning new business class product

Germany’s national carrier Lufthansa has announced it is actively considering a new business class product for itself as well as subsidiaries such as Swiss International Air Lines and Austrian Airlines. The move of the airline is being seen as quite significant and one of the biggest shakeups across Europe in terms of business class ever since the fully flat bed with direct aisle access was introduced by Virgin Atlantic Airways in 2003.

The shakeup however doesn’t mention about Brussels Airlines, which is presently offering a similar Thompson Vantage business class to Austrian Airlines and Swiss. Lufthansa has though indicated that the new business class product would be installed on its low-cost subsidiary Eurowings group.

Media reports said that Lufthansa had only a month ago (February 2017) introduced new business class seats on its Airbus A350 aircraft, which was believed to be underwhelming according to some travel experts. The news therefore of a new business class product is being viewed as indeed positive for many in the commercial aviation industry. This is also going to enhance passenger experience, both on the ground and on board the flights.

Currently, direct aisle access is being offered for every passenger only on Austrian Airlines’ Boeing 767 aircraft across the Lufthansa group. It is expected that the new business class product being planned by Lufthansa would be offering direct aisle access to each customer.

A spokesperson of Lufthansa while providing more details about the new state-of-the-art business class product said that the next generation seats would be customized and will have digitization options enabling the customers to wirelessly control their seats with the help of their own tablets or smartphones. Moreover, the personal mobile devices can also be utilized for directly controlling the in-flight entertainment system and the seat’s position. A surprise is in store for business class customers when the new product is finally unveiled. The new seats are being designed to meet the individual needs of the customers.
