Lufthansa plans new business class services on all Indian routes

Germany’s flagship carrier Lufthansa has announced it has started preparations to provide new services and in-flight products to India. The airline wants to aggressively compete with Middle East carriers who have already begun expanding their flight operations in India.

Steffen Harbarth, Lufthansa’s Vice President - Asia Pacific, said that the airline is looking forward to launch its Airbus A380 services to India soon. He said that the airline is in the process of deciding where and when to deploy A380 service in India. He declined to reveal further details.

Harbarth said that he was still unaware about any restrictions in the bilateral air service agreement between Germany and India on launching A380 flights by Lufthansa. India, which had banned A380 operations in India, has now lifted the restrictions and allowed A380 flights once again. Lufthansa currently has a total entitlement of operating 69 flights every week, but is presently operating only 46 flights per week.

Lufthansa has indicated that it is planning to launch Airbus A380 operations in India. The airline has also said that it will be offering new cheap business class flights services on all Indian routes. The new business class service would be initially introduced on the Chennai route from March this year.

According to a top Lufthansa official, the Gulf carriers are expected to pose a stiff challenge. He said that the competition would not only be challenging, but quite motivating as well. The airline wants to offer seats to meet the demand of the customers and want to sustain as well as to profit.
