Lufthansa serves San Francisco with A380 aircraft

Lufthansa Airlines recently deployed its new Airbus A380 aircraft over Frankfurt-San Francisco route. With the new launch Lufthansa became the first airline to serve the US city with A380 aircraft. The grand inaugural launch took place on 10th May 2011, which has officially been declared as, “Lufthansa German Airlines Day in San Francisco”.

Carsten Spohr, CEO Lufthansa Passenger Airlines was joined by a delegation consisting of U.S. and International media, esteemed customers and Lufthansa executives onboard when the aircraft took its first flight.

“San Francisco has been an important and successful gateway for Lufthansa for more than 50 years. I applaud the airport’s management for their dedication in becoming A380-ready. It demonstrates our shared commitment to serving the global travel needs of the area’s active business community while embracing the environmental advancements of the A380. Now Europe’s most highly regarded airline will serve SFO with the industry’s most advanced aircraft to date,” said Carsten Spohr, CEO Lufthansa Passenger Airlines.

The launch will make San Francisco the second destination in United States and fifth in the world to be served by Lufthansa’s A380 aircraft. The airline has been serving cities such as New York, Tokyo, Beijing and Johannesburg with A380 aircraft and service between Miami and Frankfurt will soon begin from 10th June 2011. The airline has also ordered a total of 15 A380 aircrafts, which will be delivered by 2015. With this addition Lufthansa will become the largest A380 flight operator in Europe.

Flights to San Francisco will depart from Frankfurt at 0945hrs and arrived in San Francisco International Airport at 1205hrs. The round trip flight will then depart from San Francisco at 1420hrs and will arrive in Frankfurt at 1005hrs the following day.
