Lufthansa to change fuel surcharges calculation, hike tickets

German carrier Lufthansa recently said that it will be making adjustments to the way in which it calculates fuel surcharges this August. The airline said that this will lead to an increase in the prices of tickets for intercontinental first and business class flights.

According to Lufthansa, it will begin taking into account the class of booked tickets when calculating the jet fuel surcharges starting from August 7, 2013.

The airline has until now taking only a flight’s distance into consideration for determining the exact amount of the fuel surcharges on ticket prices. But the changes now being made would be increasing ticket prices for each leg of a roundtrip by $66 (50 Euros).

Lufthansa’s recent move follows its rivals across Europe who also made similar adjustments to the calculation of Fuel surcharges.

Of late, growing fuel prices has left the airlines greatly worried and continues to be one of the biggest concerns for the global aviation industry.
