Lufthansa to offer new business class experience onboard its first Boeing 787-8 from June 1

Germany’s national carrier Lufthansa has become the first airline in the world to receive its new “Jumbo” Boeing 747-8 aircraft as it landed in Frankfurt on May 2, 2012.

Lufthansa in a statement said that the world’s first passenger flight with a Boeing 747-8 will begin operations between Frankfurt and Washington Dulles International Airport in the U.S. capital, Washington D.C., from June 1, 2012.

The airline stated that Lufthansa passengers will get opportunity to experience the new business class seats onboard the first Boeing 747-8 flight between Frankfurt and Washington DC.

According to the airline, the new seats in the business class will be offering exceptional comfort for passengers in a sitting or recumbent position, intuitive adjustment features, an individual entertainment system with much larger 15-inch screens, and additional storage space.

Describing the features further, the airline said that the business class seats convert into a comfortable bed with a horizontal sleeping surface measuring 1.98 meters in length at the press of a button. The aircraft will also be featuring an entirely new seating arrangement in the form of a “V”. The business class passengers are assured even more privacy in the new Boeing 747-8 aircraft.

Lufthansa will be acquiring 20 Boeing 747-8s until 2015. The first five aircraft are scheduled for delivery to the airline this year. Apart from Washington DC, the newly-acquired aircrafts will be deployed on routes from Frankfurt to New Delhi, Bangalore, Chicago and Los Angeles.
