Malaysia Airlines initiates business class lounge upgrade

Malaysia’s national carrier Malaysia Airlines recently announced it has initiated the renovation of its business class lounge.

The airline in a statement said that it has started upgrading its Golden lounge waiting room facilities considering the anticipated increase in business class passengers with the delivery of the first Airbus A380 aircraft by year-end.

According to the airline, major renovation at the golden lounge is currently underway and will be completed by June 18, 2012. Several new features, such as sports bar, kids room and games room, are being added to offer better facilities to the passengers booking business class flights.

After the renovation is complete, the seat capacity for business class in the Golden lounge will increase to 320 from the existing 230. However, for the first class the seat capacity would be reduced to 50 from the current 90.

Mohd Husaini Ariffin, Manager of Golden Lounge, said that the renovation work being undertaken is part of the airline’s preparation to receive its first Airbus A380 aircraft, which will significantly increase the number of business class passengers, as well as its entry into the oneworld alliance by year-end.
