Malaysian Airlines to make upper deck of A380 aircrafts child-free zone

Malaysian Airlines recently announced it will make the upper deck of its Airbus A380 aircrafts a “child-free zone”. The upper deck is configured with 70-seat Premium Economy seats, First Class and Business Class.

The airline wants to ban children from the top deck of its A380 aircrafts in a bid to attract more passengers to fly with it.

Malaysian Airlines in a statement said that the families wanting to travel with their children will have to book seats in the planes’ 350-seat Economy Class area, which is a “child-friendly zone”, from July 1, 2012.

By taking this step, the airline is trying to make its premium product on the A380 aircrafts more appealing to the high-yielding business passengers.

However, the airline further clarified its policy and stated that when there will be overwhelming demand for seats in Economy Class from families with children and infants, resulting in full load in the main deck, it will still be accommodating such demand in the 70-seat upper deck premium economy class zone of the aircraft.
