Merger with US Airways strengthens American Airlines position

Bright prospects are ahead for American Airlines now with the recent merger of US Airways. The two airlines – American Airlines and US Airways – have recently merged forming the biggest airline company in the world now. Media reports said that the merger will greatly benefit customers booking airline tickets on American Airlines. The reports also stated that the merger has in fact provided a major boost and strengthened the position of American Airlines further in the U.S. domestic air travel market.

American Airlines also believes that with its strengthened position now it will be able to give a tough competition to the other airline companies and help the newly-formed company to make a major dent by capturing the market share. Currently, the domestic aviation market in the United States is dominated by American Airlines, United Continental Holdings, Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines. The combined market share of all these four major airlines is around 84 percent of the domestic air travel market in the U.S.

American Airlines with the merger now will be serving 336 destinations across 56 countries around the world. The airline’s combined fleet would be of 1,511 aircrafts that would provide services on both domestic and international routes. The airline will be providing more than 6,700 flights every day. The corporate customer traffic is likely to increase three-fold thus enabling the new company to generate big revenues.
