Miami’s 11 new downtown hotels to double room numbers in 3 years

The hotel scene in Miami is going to become more vibrant in coming years. Media reports recently said that 11 new hotels in Miami’s central business district are going to double the number of rooms over the next three years. If this finally comes through according to the plans then the number of hotel rooms will go up to 6,640 from the existing 3,632.

The Marriott Marquis hotel is among the largest of new downtown hotels that will see the number of rooms being significantly increased. The 1,800-room hotel is situated adjacent to the Miami Worldcenter complex in the Park West district. It is also so far the biggest project in South Florida. There are many hotels in downtown and also in Brickell that are mainly focused on business travelers. However, the Marriott Marquis hotel will mostly be catering to the tourists.

A spokesperson of Marriott Marquis hotel said that extensive efforts will be made to attract cruise passengers, who have been largely left untapped. The hotel will try to attract them in staying for a couple of days and enjoy various attractions in Miami, especially museums, and also pursue other activities. The hotel will also prove to be a nice play to stay at because of the convenient transportation options, such as nearby Metrorail station.

Apart from being tourist-oriented, the Marriott Marquis hotel can also not be simply ignored by business travelers because of the huge spaces for conventions and conferences. The hotel will be offering a 100,000-square-feet exhibition hall on the ground floor and 400,000-square-feet of meeting space.
