New business class seats on Japan Airlines domestic flights

Japan’s national carrier Japan Airlines recently announced it will be upgrading its flights on domestic routes with new business class seats. The airline will also install new economy class seats on its domestic flights as well. The customers traveling on economy class and business class flights on domestic routes would also be provided in-flight Wi-Fi. The upgrade on domestic flights is part of Japan Airlines’ ambitious JAL Sky Next refresh program.

Media reports quoting a Japan Airlines official said that the airline will upgrade about 77 aircrafts in its short-range Boeing fleet. These include nine of the airline’s twin-aisle Boeing 767-300ER aircrafts that would be also equipped with an exclusive first class cabin. The revamped aircrafts would be deployed on several domestic routes from the middle of 2014.

According to Japan Airlines, the new recliner business class seats would be made of leather and will have a seat pitch of 38 inch. The passengers would have a comfortable journey with an extra-wide armrest between the seats.

Providing details about the new economy class seats, Japan Airlines said that these would also be made of leather. The seats are based on molded slimline design aimed at significantly reducing weight and providing more legroom. The seat pitch will be of 31 inch. The airline indicated that the first revamped aircraft of the JAL Sky Next fleet is likely to start flying in May this year. The airline is yet to announce the domestic routes on which the revamped aircrafts would be flying.
