New hotels, expansion project being planned in Miami Beach

The hotel scene in Miami Beach is all set to be lively even more with two new hotels to be built and another expanded. Media reports recently said that two developers have filed applications to the city’s Historic Preservation Board seeking approval for converting the existing buildings in Miami Beach to hotels. The applications have also been reviewed.

Proposals have been submitted to the city authorities for converting a 46-unit apartment building into a hotel to be named as Jade Hotel Miami Beach. The apartment building was built in 1948 and situated to the east of the Miami Beach Convention Center and few blocks to the north of major tourist center Lincoln Road. The developed has already acquired the building in March 2014. The reports said that the property will be expanded and renovated. A five-story addition will be made to the building. The new hotel will have a 32-seat restaurant and 69 hotel rooms. The building is presently housed in an area of 15,557 square feet and after expansion it will have an area of 30,000 square feet.

The former Universal Music office building is also like to be converted into a hotel and retail complex. A proposal in this regard has also been made by a developer. The building presently has a three-story, but after reconstruction it will get another four-story addition. The new hotel will be in an area of 20,643 square feet and will comprise of a rooftop pool deck and 45 guest rooms. The present building is considered a mix of Mediterranean and Art Deco style.

The reports further said that the Mimosa Hotel has also sought approval from the city authorities to construct a five-story ground level addition along with a one-story rooftop addition. This condo hotel, formerly called the Brazil Hotel, was built in 1953 and has 60 units. After expansion the hotel will be housed in an area of 37,612 square feet from the existing 25,847 square feet.
