New luggage rules on Saudi Arabian Airlines now effective, two pieces of up to 32 kg allowed in business class

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s national flag carrier Saudi Arabian Airlines, also popularly known as Saudia, recently announced that its new baggage allowance rule has now become effective.

The airline in a statement said that the new luggage rule will be based on the “piece concept” instead of the earlier “weight concept”. The new rule came into effect from September 1, 2012.

Passengers booking first class as well business class flights on Saudia will be able to carry two pieces of luggage each weighing up to 32 kg under this new baggage system. Apart from this, the passengers would be allowed to carry hand baggage not exceeding 9 kg when traveling in first class or booking business class seats.

For passengers traveling in Economy Class, only one piece of luggage weighing 32 kg or less would be allowed. However, for additional luggage piece within the permitted weight limit the passengers would be required to pay extra charges when traveling in any of the classes.

According to the airline, an additional luggage weighing 23 kg would be allowed for passengers traveling in Economy Class to African and Asian destinations after paying an extra $93.32 (350 Saudi Riyal), while the passengers would have to pay $133.32 (500 Saudi Riyal) when traveling to destinations in the U.S.
