New ‘Super Business Class’ seat to be unveiled by Qatar Airways

A new “Super Business Class” is all set to be launched by Qatar Airways in November 2016. The new travel class will be launched ahead of the airline’s ambitious fleet-wide refit. Qatar’s national carrier, which is presently considered to be among the world’s best, is aiming to unleash a new competition in the commercial aviation industry by setting a new trend. The airline is also simultaneously looking to further narrow the gap between first class and business class, by introducing a new category of luxury travel.

Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways Group, revealed the major highlights of the new Super Business Class. He said, “The Super Business Class seat will be featuring sliding doors for converting it into a suite-like cabin. This will be similar to a prototype design for Singapore Airlines proposed by a British firm. The middle seats would in fact be a ‘double bed’. Traveling in Super Business Class would seem as though one would be flying in first class on business class tickets.”

According to Al Baker, it is somewhat a claustrophobic experience when flying in private suites. This concern is now being appropriately addressed while designing the new business class product, thus ensuring that it isn’t claustrophobic. A conscious decision for going for semi-privacy has been taken. “People in fact slide the two doors in the cabin concept. The cabins are already semi-closed and later become fully closed because of the sliding doors. This is because additional privacy is needed by the people when going to sleep. The new design will now be exclusive to Qatar Airways only,” said Al Baker.

International airlines are increasingly focusing on attracting premium customers, and therefore business class seats have now become the new battleground. Qatar Airways has always been a leader and the first to take luxury air travel to the next level. According to Al Baker, the new design of Super Business Class is proprietary and would be patented by Qatar Airways.
