Now, this one news that would make anglers jump in their seats! Free Fishing weekend has been announced open by the State Department of Environmental Conservation. The event was started in 1991 and gives anglers from around the country a chance to try out the rich fishing opportunity New York has on offer. The best part is there is no license required to go angling in this event. Normally, an anglers needs to be 16 years or older to fish.
Besides this event, ‘Onondaga Lake Partnership’ is also hosting the seventh annual weekend at Onondaga Park. This event will have also feature carp fishing tournament. It would run between 9:00AM to 5:0 PM Saturday and host a fun fishing competition between 9:00 to noon this Sunday.
Both the events would be conducted at Willow Bay, located at Onondaga Lake Park and see prize distribution of more than $2000.
Onondaga Lake Park Griffin Visitor Center (Liverpool) would sell the entry tickets along with Mickey’s Live Bait and Tackle Shop (North Syracuse). The cost of the tickets would range from $10 for adults to $5 for juniors while on Sunday it will be $2 and $1. To know more, you can dial 458-7998
Besides the events, Central New York Chapter of the Izaak Walton League will also organize “Learn to Fish” sessions that will run from 0900 to 1100 this Sunday at the Willow Bay.
During these fun sessions, participants would learn:
- How to identify fish and their biology
- Fishing techniques
- Fishing tackle and their usage
- Fishing ethics and conservation
While the sessions would run parallel to each other, the participants will rotate and get to spend around 20-minute at each station. The sessions would conclude with participants casting with spinning rods offered by Izaak Walton League.
