No meals for premium fliers on American Airlines shorter flights

American Airlines recently announced it will stop providing meals to its premium customers on some of its shorter flights. The airline said that it will start serving snacks instead of a full meal to its customers traveling in first class and business class flights that are of shorter duration and are lessee than 2 hour and 45 minutes. The airline is presently serving meals even on those flights that are of 2 hours in duration.

A spokesperson of American Airlines said that the airline will however continue serving meals as usual on the busy New York-Chicago route. The new changes are being made on flights within the United States, Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean.

The airline said that the first class passengers will be provided a “packaged snack” on flights that are of less than one hour duration. Those who are undertaking flights less than 2 hours in duration will be offered a basket comprising of many sweet and savory snack alternatives. The information was provided to American Airlines’ AAdvantage frequent-flier members through an official email.

According to the airline, the snack basket to be provided on flights with flying time ranging between 2 hours and 2 hours 45 minutes will consist of sandwiches or breakfast breads and fresh fruit as well as packaged snacks. The airline has however declined to reveal as to what after all is the percentage of American Airlines flights that are of less than 2 hours 45 minutes duration.

American Airlines said that full meals will continue to be provided to the first class passengers traveling on flights that are longer than 2 hours 45 minutes. The airline will be adding an appetizer to the meals on flights that are of 3 hours 30 minutes and 4 hours 30 minutes.
