Norwegian launches new London-NY route with cheap airfares

Norway’s leading budget carrier Norwegian Air recently launched new route between London and New York offering cheap airfares to its customers. The airline will be offering one-way flights on this route starting at only $248* (150 GBP).

The airline with its attractive low fares is all set to attract new customers for travel between the Big Apple and London Gatwick. Norwegian Air is presently Europe’s 3rd largest low-cost carrier, competing with its two big rivals Ryanair and easyJet.

Currently, Norwegian is also Scandinavia’s 2nd largest carrier serving 126 routes in Thailand, Middle East, North Africa and Europe. The airline also provides services from Norway’s capital city Oslo to various U.S. destinations such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Florida and New York.

The airline, which is offering cheap tickets at $248 one-way for out-of-season travel, says that the current offering is relatively cheap. It further went on to elucidate its plan to continue offer cheap flights between London and New York in September as well, which will cost travelers $721* (420 GBP) roundtrip. Other carriers such as Air France, Virgin Atlantic Airways and British Airways will be offering roundtrip flights on the same route and same period for nearly $1,150* (670 GBP). According to Norwegian, the flights on this route will however be cheaper in October with tickets priced at $567* (330 GBP) roundtrip.

Norwegian has become the first Scandinavian budget carrier to introduce transatlantic service from London. The airline said that the huge Boeing 787 Dreamliners had made it possible to operate discounted transatlantic service.

A top spokesperson of Norwegian said that it has gained success in operating cheap flights between U.S.A. and Norway and expects to continue with the discounted service for long. Other budget carriers had also in the past few years tried to begin transatlantic flights. The airlines will be keeping a keen watch on Norwegian’s move. Aviation experts also said that a price war is in the offing as low-cost airlines make determined bids to launch flights to the United States.
