Now pay seat fees on Lufthansa from November 26

For economy class passengers flying on Lufthansa, gone are the days for getting cheap airfares for quite some time as the airline has made an important change. Lufthansa recently announced that the economy class passengers looking to reserve a specific seat of their choice will now have to pay a fee from November this year.

Media reports said that Lufthansa will start charging the fee on specific seat reservation in economy class starting from November 26, 2013. The amount has been fixed at $14 (10 Euro). The airline has however decided to charge more for premium seats. The passengers will have to pay a higher sum for reserving seats in emergency exit rows. Those traveling on short-haul flights will be charged $28 (20 Euro), while for long-haul flights the airline will be charging $83 (60 Euro).

Lufthansa has however not clarified whether passengers booking transitting flights will have to pay one fee or they will be required to pay twice. The airline has said that the passengers can still pre-select their favorite seat when checking-in online up to 23 hours in advance. According to Lufthansa, the pre-selection of seating would remain free of charge to higher ranking loyalty cardholders like Senator, Hon Circle and companions traveling along with them.
