Philippine Airlines has announced it will be launching it new business class and premium economy from mid-year. The airline has embarked on an upgrade program during which eight of its Airbus A330 aircrafts would have three travel classes – Business Class, Economy Class and Premium Economy. The new cabins would be introduced on flights to
Melbourne and
Sydney.
Media reports quoted a spokesperson of Philippine Airlines as saying that a full complement of premium cabins are being installed on the revamped Airbus A330 aircrafts in the hope that it would be able to make a major foray into the business and corporate travel market and earn big revenues. The airline also expects to attract well-heeled holidaymakers significantly.
According to the reports, the business class cabins would be located at the pointy end of Airbus A330 aircrafts. The premium customers would be offered a total of 18 lie-flat, comfortable business class seats. The cabin would be configured in a 1-2-1 layout and would be offering direct aisle access. The business class cabins would be based on the similar Thompson Vantage XL platform as provided in Qantas Airways’ Business Suite, but would be in a less customized form. Each business class seat would offer ample working and personal space, in addition to an 18.5 inch video screen for in-flight entertainment, and AC and USB power sockets.
The premium economy cabins would offer a total of 24 seats, with each having a seat pitch of 38 inches and 19 inches width. The customers traveling in premium economy would be offered a 13.3 inch video screen for on board entertainment. Among other facilities include AC and USB power sockets, similar to those being provided in the business class cabins. Apart from this, the airline will be offering a total of 267 seats in economy class. Each seat in economy class will have a 6 inch recline, a 32 inch pitch and 17 inches wide. The seats will also be equipped with USB power socket and 10.1 inch video screen.
Philippine Airlines is planning to launch the revamped Airbus A330 aircrafts on Melbourne-Manila route in July and Sydney-Manila route in August 2017. The airline will also be introducing Airbus A330 aircrafts on other routes such as Osaka, Tokyo Narita, Tokyo Haneda, Singapore and Honolulu during this mid-year.
