Philippine Airlines mulling nonstop Cebu-LAX flights in 2016

Philippines’ national flag carrier Philippine Airlines has indicated that it will continue to expand its international network with new routes to the United States. The airline said that it is planning to serve Florida and Chicago in future.

Media reports recently said that Philippine Airlines is all set to launch its nonstop flights to Los Angeles from Cebu in 2016. The airline had quite recently launched its new flights services to New York from Manila via Vancouver. The airline serves other gateways in U.S. as well with nonstop flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles from Manila.

Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines has announced it is planning to restore its nonstop flights between New York and Singapore by 2018. After launch, this will become the longest passenger flight in the world once again.

The airline had last operated the nonstop flights on Singapore-New York route in 2013 with the help of an Airbus A340-500 aircraft. The long haul flight between the two destinations involved a flight duration of nearly 19 hours with the total distance being 15,344 kilometres, thus making it the longest ever non-stop commercial route in the world. The airline had to stop operating the route because with only 100 business class seats available, the route proved to be not financially viable.

Though Singapore Airlines has revealed its plans to reintroduce its nonstop flights between Singapore and New York, the airline officials have however said that there are presently no commercially viable jets available in the market for operating this route. Both leading aircraft makers Boeing and Airbus have been contacted by the airline to produce an aircraft that is able to operate this route feasibly.
