Qantas Airways and Virgin Australia fight for business travelers

Premium travelers booking business class tickets for travel between the United States and Australia are quite upbeat these days. There’s stiff competition currently going on between Qantas Airways and Virgin Australia for having a major share in transcontinental pointy-end traffic. The rivalry has also led to significant upgrades in seat quality and on-board services.

Media reports recently said that both Qantas Airways and Virgin Australia have started upgrading all their respective aircrafts offering services on this route. The two airlines are now offering lie-flat beds in their business class cabins and have also enhanced gourmet food and wine offerings as well.

The reports said that both the carriers are battling it out between themselves over the hugely popular New York-Los Angeles route, which is also frequently used by Australian business travelers.

Ed Bastian, President of Delta Air Lines, said, “The Los Angeles-New York route is highly competitive. The two cities are presently the largest markets in the United States. Even Delta Air Lines is trying hard to remain into competition and has recently made significant upgrades in its business class products and services. The airline is now offering fully flat beds in its business class cabins and is being taken up well by the premium customers.”

Delta Air Lines and Virgin Australia are presently alliance partners. New York continues to be quite popular connecting destination for Virgin Australia customers, while Los Angeles is the preferred connecting destination for Delta Air Lines flights from Australia. Even Qantas Airways is into partnership with American Airlines and offering daily flights services between Los Angeles and New York in association with its U.S. partner.
