Qantas Airways to boost premium economy seats on Airbus A380s

Australia’s national flag carrier Qantas Airways recently announced it will be increasing the number of seats in Premium Economy as well as Economy Class on its Airbus A380 aircrafts to achieve more profitability.

The airline in a statement said that it is currently facing difficult times due to increased competition on international routes. The airline stated that it has decided to curtail premium business class cabins on its superjumbos and refit more Economy Class and Premium Economy seats.

Qantas Airways said that when its Airbus A380 aircrafts are refitted after shrinking business class cabins then there will be 39 additional Economy Class seats. Most of these additional seats in Economy Class will be refitted on the aircraft’s upper deck where premium economy cabin was earlier located. The refitted upper deck will have a total of 371 Economy Class seats instead of the present 332 seats.

The refitted Premium Economy cabin will now be located where business class cabins are currently found. The Premium Economy cabin, which presently has 32 seats, will now have a total of 35 seats.

The business class cabins will be reduced and left with a total of 64 seats instead of the earlier 72 seats.
