Qantas becomes first airline to start internet access trial

Australia’s flag carrier Qantas has become the first airline in the world to introduce trials for internet access on direct flights between Australia and US.

Qantas recently announced that its first class and business class passengers onboard A380 flights between Australia and US have been provided the opportunity to gain access to internet and check their emails on their flights.

The trial, which will be for eight-week period, will enable the passengers to access the internet after paying a fee via their Wi-Fi enabled laptops and personal electronic devices, such as iPhones, iPads and BlackBerrys.

According to the airline, six superjumbos Airbus A380s, currently flying between Melbourne and Sydney and Los Angeles, have been equipped with internet technology.

Passenger taking business class and first class flights between Australia and US will be initially provided internet access on trial basis. However, after the trial is successful the airline will consider making its entire A380 fleet internet enabled.
