Qantas postpones its LAX Business Lounge revamp to early 2015

Australia’s national carrier Qantas Airways, which recently inaugurated its new first class lounge at the Los Angeles International Airport, said that it is postponing the revamp of its Business Lounge at the airport to early 2015.

Regarding the opening of its new first class lounge, the airline said that it is going to solve the problem of overcrowding. Earlier, some Qantas Club members had to be turned away during the extremely busy periods.

The airline had planned to extend its Business Lounge at Los Angeles airport, which was scheduled to be open along with the Qantas First Lounge. The new wing of the Business Lounge was also to accommodate customers of Oneworld partners Cathay Pacific Airways and British Airways as well.

The much-needed expansion will see the revamped Business Lounge have a room to accommodate an additional 200 passengers. The lounge will also have other amenities including a business zone comprising 6 desktop computers, a family zone, additional shower suites, new buffet and a dedicated dining room.

Kylie Morris, Qantas Airways’ Head of Customer Experience, said that the lounge dining will also get a boost. A new commercial grade kitchen would be there to help prepare a wide range of meals for the passengers waiting to board their flights. The meals will also include a ‘Plate of the Day’, similar to what is being currently offered at the airline’s business class lounges at Hong Kong International Airport and Singapore’s Changi Airport.

Morris said that the airline is now expecting to open the new wing of its LAX Business Lounge during the first quarter of 2015. Currently, the terminal is being extended and the new wing’s extension depends on the completion of terminal.
