Qatar Airways launches flights to Chongqing from Doha

Qatar Airways recently announced the launch of its scheduled flights to Chongqing from Doha. The move of the airline is aimed at expanding its flight operations in China.

Chongqing is Qatar Airway’s fifth Chinese destination. The other four destinations in China include Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Besides, Chongqing has also become the 110th destination in the airline’s global network. Currently, above 25 percent of Qatar Airways’ routes are spread across Asia.

Qatar Airways in a statement said that the new flights to Chongqing from Doha will operate thrice weekly.

The airline also disclosed that it has deployed an Airbus A330 aircraft configured with 248 seats in Economy Class and 36 business class seats to operate flights on the new Doha-Chongqing route. According to the airline, the passengers in both cabins will be able to enjoy entertainment facilities with a choice of more than 700 audio and video on demand options on their seatback TV screens.

Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, said that with Chongqing’s huge industrial catchment area in central western China, the airline has seen the huge potential to operate to the city. He also said that the airline has been keeping a close watch on the dynamic Chinese market and looking at viable opportunities to operate in China.
