Qatar Airways stops flight service to London Gatwick

Qatar Airways recently announced the withdrawal of the flight services from the London Gatwick route due to commercial reasons. The airline will stop the flight service by 31st May 2011. The move will lose the contacts with the gulf and other cities in Asia and Australia.

“We are extremely sad to be losing London Gatwick from our network after serving the route for the past seven years. But following a thorough review and analysis over the past few months, we have concluded that we could no longer sustain the route for commercial reasons. While we continue to grow our business, developing the network further, we do it prudently, cautiously and carefully,” said, Akbar Al Baker, CEO Qatar Airways.

The airline will, however, continue to operate flights out of Heathrow and will soon be increasing the frequency of flights twice daily to Manchester.

After the Qatar Airways pulls out, the gulf-based carrier, Emirates, will be only one left to operate flight service to Gatwick.
