Qatar Airways to introduce Business Class Bedroom in 2016

Competition among airlines seems to be intensifying to provide more amenities to those booking business class flights. It was Singapore Airlines earlier which lured premium customers with many privileges. Now, leading Middle East carriers such as Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways are competing with each other to attract business class flyers in a big way.

Qatar Airways recently announced it will be introducing a ‘business class bedroom’ from next year. According to the airline, the new bedroom in business class to be launched in 2016 would be comparable to today’s first class.

Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, while speaking to mediapersons during the launch ceremony of its new Airbus A350 aircraft in Doha, said that the all-new design would offer the premium customers “a double bed at a business class fare”. He also indicated that the current business class seat being offered by the airline would become obsolete by 2016.

Baker said that the airline has always stayed ahead in the race and raised the bar. According to him, there are many airlines that are installing bedrooms into their aircrafts, but Qatar Airways will do so at a much cheaper cost than others.

The airline’s CEO said that a new business class seat is in the process of being developed now which will be having proprietary rights, and will be simply unmatched. When this product is finally introduced on to the aircrafts, the necessity of a first class will not at all be required. He said that next generation seating would be ‘super business class’ exclusive only to the airline and ‘revolutionary’ over the existing business class seats.
