Qatar Airways has decided to go upscale further. The airline announced that it is planning to debut “patented” luxury cabin seats on its Doha-Boston Logan route from 2017. The airline had launched nonstop flights between Doha and Boston in March this year. The premium customers traveling on the route next year are promised a luxurious flying experience by the airline. However, the details of the new luxury cabin seats are not forthcoming and continue to remain a closely held secret.
Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways Group, said, “The plan to debut new patented luxury cabin seats are being kept strictly secret and only five employees of the company are privy to it. The extent of secrecy will be such that even Boeing and Airbus have agreed to sign confidentiality agreements.”
Baker further said that the new luxury cabin seats would be completely unique and a level above to what is being currently offered in the business class on Doha-Boston route. The new product will be retrofitted on the airline’s new Airbus A350 aircrafts being flown between Doha and Boston’s Logan International Airport.
According to Qatar Airways’ CEO, the product is going to be patented so that it doesn’t give any scope to other airlines to copy its design or amenities. He went on to describe the new product as a “first-class cabin to be sold as a business class product”. Ever since the launch of the A350 flights on Doha-Boston route, the flight bookings have been remarkable and gaining pace.
Terming the new Boston-Doha route as highly successful, Akbar Al Baker said, “The sale of flight tickets for any new destination is usually started by the airline at least eight months ahead of schedule. However, for Doha-Boston route the flight bookings started only around four months in advance due to uncertainty regarding the deliveries of the new Airbus A350 aircrafts. The results so far are positive and the bookings are on upward trend. The customers are also quite happy indeed and giving a very positive feedback.”
Qatar Airways has now become the second Middle Eastern carrier to launch daily nonstop flights to Boston Logan, which became operational in March 2016. Emirates Airline is the first carrier from the Middle East to launch daily nonstop flights between Boston and Dubai in March 2014. Later, Emirates upgraded the service with a larger aircraft and added a second daily service on the route in October 2015.
