Redemption rates for Economy Class to be increased for Avios customers on British Airways

Avios customers booking cheap flights on British Airways and Iberia will from now onwards have to pay more on their air tickets.

The Reward Flight Saver option so far being used by Avios customers to redeem flights on British Airways and Iberia will now be required to pay more on their Economy Class and Business Class redemptions as the rates are being increased from October 8, 2012.

British Airways announced that Reward Flight Saver redemptions, which were currently being offered for a flat rate fee of $43.50 (27 Pounds) in Economy Class and $54.80 (34 Pounds) in Business Class (including taxes and other fees), are now being increased to $48.31 (30 Pounds) in Economy Class and $64.47 (40 Pounds) in Business Class.

The Reward Flight Saver redemptions are being offered on flights within zones 1-3, for the members who have at least earned one Avios in the preceding 12 months.

According to Avios, the rates have been increased because of the latest hike in air passenger duty rates and fuel prices.
