Budget carrier Ryanair is set to launch its transatlantic flights to the United States. The airline has decided to enter into partnership with its rival low-cost Norwegian for offering long-haul services starting this summer season. Media reports said that the customers would be able to take the advantage of low fares when booking flights from various UK airports to many U.S. destinations such as Boston, New Jersey and New York.
According to the reports, the customers would find it convenient to travel on a single ticket whether booking their tickets either through Ryanair or Norwegian. Moreover, under this arrangement transferring at connecting airports would also become easy, and also movement of baggage between the aircrafts would be done automatically.
The two airlines are yet to confirm the routes. However, according to media reports the customers on Ryanair flights would be departing from Barcelona, Cork or London Gatwick before connecting on to a Norwegian flight for onwards journey to the U.S. airports such as Los Angeles International Airport, Boston Logan Airport or New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
When booking flights from Barcelona or London on Norwegian, the customers would be landing at major U.S. airports such as Boston Logan Airport or New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. However, departing from Cork, the flights would be landing at Stewart International Airport, situated 60 miles north of Manhattan in the State of New York.
Media reports quoting a Ryanair spokesman said that the move of partnership with Norwegian seems to be logical because of Ryanair’s largest route network in Europe. Apart from this, even the long haul carriers stand to gain significantly and the proposition therefore is indeed quite attractive. Bjorn Kjos, Chief Executive of Norwegian, while approving the partnership with Ryanair said that his company would consider a similar deal with Easyjet as well, and for which negotiations were currently going on.
