SAS to Offer Business Class Only Flights to Houston

Scandinavian Airlines announced the launch of nonstop flights between Stavanger, the oil capital of Norway and George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The airline will fly business class-only flight between the city pair, operated by a Boeing 737-700. Maiden flight will leave from Houston on August 20th, just before Offshore Northern Seas 2014, an important biyearly oil and gas industry exhibition to be organized in Stavanger.

Flying in 737-700 is not a big deal, but flying in a 737-700 fitted with just 44 seats definitely is. Isn’t it? And that’s exactly the biggest change that this flight will offer. SAS will offer only 44 roomy business class seats on this route, a respite from the typical 128-140 seats. All the facilities and services offered onboard will be a part of the SAS Long Haul Business Class concept. This will comprise modern day in-flight entertainment system like iPads loaded with movies, music etc, a full-service three-course meal, warm breads and some finest collection of vintage Champagnes and more.

Operated on all days except Saturday flights will leave Houston at 2135 hours and arrive next day in Stavanger at 1420 hours. Return flight will leave Stavanger at 1600 hours and arrive in Houston at 1940 hours same day. Sale of tickets for this route is open for booking. This tailor made service will connect the two global energy centers and will offer smoother connectivity for primarily the oil-and-gas execs with interests in Houston and coastal Norway.

Rickard Gustafson, President and CEO of SAS said we are not limiting this service for just passengers with interest in oil. Apt timetable is our biggest trump card, allowing leisure travelers to make use of this service and take connecting flights to other destinations smoothly. The flight schedule will offer connectivity all over Scandinavia in both directions. We also have a partnership with Star Alliance and Houston is a hub for major carriers, a combination of these two will allow passengers to fly to destinations like Los Angeles, Mexico, Phoenix and Dallas.

As per the latest stats SAS flies nearly 70,000 passengers yearly between Houston and Scandinavia, making it the third-largest airline to ply service on this route. At present the airline offers direct flights between its hubs at Norway, Denmark & Sweden and Chicago, New York, San Francisco & Washington D.C.
