Scandinavian Airlines to begin Stavanger-Houston flight in August

Scandinavian Airlines recently announced it will be launching new nonstop flights between Stavanger and Houston from August 20, 2014. The airline is introducing new service between the two cities on popular demand from leading oil and gas industry players. The airline is aiming to provide better connectivity to the two main energy hubs in Norway and the United States.

Scandinavian Airlines will now become the only airline to provide nonstop flights between Houston and Stavanger on a daily basis, except Saturdays. The flight will depart from Houston at 21:35 pm and arrive in Stavanger at 14:20 pm the next day. The return flight will depart from Stavanger at 16:00 pm and arrive at Houston at 19:40 pm the same day. The flights on Houston-Stavanger route will be operated with the help of a Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

Annise Parker, Mayor of Houston, said that Houston is currently enjoying the reputation of being the ‘Energy Capital of the World’. He said that with Scandinavian Airlines launching its flights to Houston, the economic profile of the city would further strengthen. The new service will also help in curtailing the travel time by several hours making it convenient for U.S. travelers to easily access Norway than before. Presently, for travel between Norway and Houston the travelers have to take at least one connecting flight in Newark, Paris, Frankfurt or Amsterdam.

Other destinations being currently served by Scandinavian Airlines in the United States are Chicago and San Francisco. The airline is operating a daily direct service between Copenhagen and Chicago. The airline also said that it will be introducing additional flight to San Francisco on Tuesdays making it into a daily service from June 10.

Currently, Scandinavian Airlines is celebrating its 50th anniversary of service between Chicago and Copenhagen. It became the first airline to begin flights to the US West Coast over the North Pole in 1954. The airline also started flights to the US Midwest in 1964.
