Singapore Airlines reconsiders plans to continue New York, Los Angeles business class flights

Singapore Airlines recently indicated that it is reconsidering its plans whether to continue with its nonstop, all-business class flights to Los Angeles and New York or not in view of the mounting losses it is suffering year after year. The airline is desperate to curb the losses now.

The all-business class flights to New York and Los Angeles were launched by Singapore Airlines three years ago amid controversy.

Singapore’s national carrier said that by reintroducing Economy Class seats on New York and Los Angeles route the airline will be able to significantly boost its revenue and offset the current losses it is facing.

The airline wants to reconfigure its Airbus A345 aircrafts and refit these with Economy Class seats. This may, however, prove to be an expensive undertaking for the airline.

Rising fuel costs globally is also seen among the likely factors behind the airline’s rethink.

Singapore Airlines in a statement said that the New York and Los Angeles routes make up the longest all-business class flights in the world.

Ever since, these two routes were launched by the airline in May 2008, they have been consistently running into losses.
