Singapore Airlines, Virgin Australia announce long-term partnership

Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia recently announced that they will be entering into a long-term partnership to boost their global reach despite the exclusion of the lucrative Australia-US sector.

The two airlines announced their tie-up on the sidelines of a global aviation industry in Singapore on June 6, 2011.

The tie-up will take effect on August 1 after it is approved by the regulators.

The two carriers in a joint statement said that the alliance will connect Singapore Airlines’ extensive international network with Virgin Australia’s wide range of Australian and Pacific destinations. Besides, both the airlines will also share flights, coordinate schedules and undertake joint sales and marketing programs.

The statement also said that the new tie-up will enable Virgin Australia to have access to about 70 more destinations, while

Singapore Airlines

customers will have access to about 30 extra routes.
