Customer Care 7 Days A Week

Sneak peek into the travelers mind through an interesting survey

We are living in an era where technology has evolved to an extent to simplify our lives. Airline industry too is making the most of this. However, many feel that these airlines are going overboard with their antics to charge customers even for basic amenities. At one point, the airline included the charges for onboard meals, baggage allowance, and selection of seats along with the ticket fare. However, that is the thing of the past and airlines these days are aiming at charging the customers separately for these facilities. But have you ever wondered how far can the airlines go in a bid to increase their profits?

As per a survey conducted recently, certain premier passengers are ok with the way airlines are charging for the amenities. They don’t even mind shelling out extra for their comfort, charges that are not in-sync with the airline policies. Researchers suggest that the new game plan of the airlines is here to stay. They believe that the airlines will continue to make money using their gimmicks to market their services for a price.

While travelers continue to disapprove of the idea of checking their baggage for a fee, the airlines seem to be little bothered. Hawaiian Airlines, which is a popular carrier in the United States offering Cheap Airfare, is the only exception in the country to not charge, the customers for the in-flight meals. The airline offers free meals to travelers on its domestic flights.

It is not that the customers mind paying for specialized or privileged services. The research suggests that many economy class travelers are willing to pay for meals offered to first-class customers. Many travelers also do not approve of the idea of paying for carry-on baggage, which is increasingly becoming a hit with the airlines. On the other hand, airlines hate slow boarding, which leads to million dollar losses annually. Hence, they have started charging for carry-on baggage a prime reason leading to the delay in boarding and subsequently take off. Frequent flyers have a different take however on this matter. They suggest that rather than charging for the carry-on baggage airlines should charge for using the overhead bins in the plane. As per the research, no airline has yet put the overhead bins for sale. This indeed is a lucrative avenue for them to offer seamless boarding.

Many travelers are not fascinated with the idea of paying extra for using the Wi-Fi onboard. The survey report hints at the fact that most travelers use modern Smartphones and don’t feel obliged to pay for a service that is easily accessible to them. They would rather shell out money to use their personal gadgets in the plane. Interestingly, most travelers are facing the brunt of the space crunch onboard. Surprisingly, about 90 percent of the passengers surveyed unanimously favored paying extra money for gaining accesses to seats that offer extra legroom. Some even said they would not mind paying for blocking seats in front of them reclining backwards. A good number of passengers said they would pay for blocking the middle seat to avoid cramming during the flight. Some more interesting facts highlighted through this survey include paying for using the washroom first, controlling their window shades, and controlling the armrests.
