South African Airways resumes nonstop Johannesburg-JFK service

South African Airways has recently resumed its nonstop flights between Johannesburg’s O. R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). The flights to be operated daily resumed services from March 7, 2015.

According to the new schedule, the Flight #204 will depart from Johannesburg at 11.15 am and arrive in New York JFK at 8.05 am the next day. The return Flight #203 will leave New York JFK at 8.25 pm and reach Johannesburg at 6.40 am next day.

The resumption of flights on Johannesburg-New York JFK route has come as a boon for the travelers from both South Africa and the United States as this will now the fastest ever connection between the two countries.

A top official of South African Airways in a statement said that the northbound flight from Johannesburg to New York JFK will significantly reduce the overall travel time by nearly 90 minutes.

The airline had been operating a daily nonstop flights service between New York JFK and Johannesburg for the past several years. However, the return flight had to make a 1-hour enroute stopover in Senegal’s capital city Dakar during the low season winter months.

The airline said that the popularity of New York JFK-Johannesburg route was the main reason behind the resumption of year-round nonstop flights in both directions now. The flights on the route will be served with the help of an Airbus A340-600 aircraft featuring 42 full-flat beds in Premium Business Class and 275 seats in Economy Class.
