Spirit Airlines delay from MSP continues despite cheap flights

Discount carrier Spirit Airlines, which continues to add routes from the Twin Cities (MSP), is lagging behind other carriers in bringing its customers to their destinations on schedule.

A travel industry report recently indicated that despite offering cheap flights Spirit Airlines on-time performance has been dismal as compared to other carriers from the same destination.
 
The U.S. Department of Transportation said that the on-time average nationwide is 80 percent. However, only 64 percent of all the flights being presently operated by Spirit Airlines reported on-time arrivals, Flightstats.com, a travel industry data provider said. As compared to Delta Air Lines and Sun Country Airlines, which also operate out of Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, Spirit Airlines’ on-time records have been the worst.  Delta Air Lines has an on-time average of 82 percent, while Sun Country Airlines has 75 percent.

According to data provider, though Spirit Airlines is rapidly adding routes in the Twin Cities, the number of flights arriving from here on-time have ranged from 48 to 62 percent, from June 15 to August 15.

Spirit Airlines said that it will be adding service from MSP to Los Angeles, Phoenix, Orlando and Tampa in November this year.
